  • There still continues to be volume of larger sized Red Delicious at a discounted prices.
  • Granny Smith 88's & smaller are still extremely hard to find & small Golden Delicious are somewhat tight.
  • The demand is dictating the higher prices. Along with the small Granny & Golds, we are seeing more strength in the small red delicious market.
  • Washington continues competing with the Mid-West on delivered pricing on a few varieties.
  • Demand is a bit slower due to spring breaks for schools around the country.

      • Quality continues to be good on the pears. Like the apples, small pears have become tight on sizes 120 through 150's on D'Anjou.
      • Movement is steady on the larger sizes, but there is more demand for the smaller ones.
      • NW Bartletts are almost wrapped up for the season & there are a few deals on the last of them. Overall, the pear market is doing well.

    • Prices are generally steady this week, however an underlying softness seems to remain.  Great quality on these storage onions. 
    • Should take us right into spring and push up against the Over-Winter onions in WA State mid-June. Red market is holding steady.
    • White onion prices are steady.  Shipments from Mexico are winding down.
    • New Crop Texas Sweet onions and all colored onions available as well from that district. The Desert district in California due to begin in late April.  
    • ORGANIC onions available from the NW.

        • Supplies continue to be stable with supplies in fewer hands.  Most of the remaining supplies are Reds and Yellows. 
        • Yellows supplies are winding down. All colors will be exhausted by the end of April. 
        • White potato supplies are finished for the season in the northwest.
        • Red & Yellow potatoes are available along with Yellow Fingerling potatoes.  Purple spuds supplies are depleted.
        • Southern California has a limited supply. Eastern WA has  supplies of Red and Yellows as well.  
        • Prices are a bit more aggressive in this district. Yet color is a bit less.
        • All colors of Organic colored potatoes are available in Eastern WA. Southern California has New Crop White potatoes.

  • Large size carton prices are UP!  This is mostly effecting 70's and larger. Supplies are readily available. 
  • Generally the market continues steady on the small cartons and bales. 
  • Norkotahs are getting a bit tighter in Idaho which is evident by rising prices there as well. 
  • This is where the large spuds where coming from so large spuds are getting tight in Idaho as well.
  • Expect quality potatoes to be available all season from most growing regions. Organic Russets are also available in the NW.

    • Supplies are still very tight as the desert regions wind down production and the coastal area production is extremely limited due to heavy rain.
    • Defects include rough curd, irregular sizing, soft shoulder and spread. Some yellow cast and mold have also been reported.

    • Strawberry - supplies have turned the corner with better supplies expected in the coming weeks.
    • Both Oxnard and Santa Maria are increasing harvest numbers, while Watsonville/Salinas should begin in earnest in a week or two.
    • Southern California weather is supposed to stay warm and dry, while the north is expecting light rain off and on throughout the week.
    • Pricing is expected to ease with the better supplies. Quality has also improved. Check with us next week about promotion timing.
    • Raspberries -  Good supplies in Mexico and California. Oxnard is coming back to better quality
    • Blackberries -  Look for supplies to increase within the next week or so, quality is good.
    • Blueberries - Supplies are at good volume from Mexico and Baja. Georgia and Florida has started production.

      • Yuma – Market higher/demand better. The industry is still ahead of schedule and looking towards a gap going into Salinas.
      • Movement looks to continue to improve with higher prices. Lighter supplies this next few weeks if the weather continues to stay warm.
      • Expect a supply gap at some point in the next 2-3 weeks. No labor issues in Yuma.
      • Weights in are 38-40 lbs. Quality will deteriorate with the hot weather.

    • Pricing is still high, we are expecting to see the market begin to fall rather soon.
    • Quite a few areas are in production now, with the northern Calif fields starting to yield more as we move into the spring crops. 
    • Quality is still suspect from some of the areas that were hurt pretty hard by the rains and the wind.

        • NAVEL sugar, color, and size are all look good. Supplies this last week have been good on 88's and smaller. 
        • Heavy export pulls taking big chunks of large fruit will keep those supplies tight.  
        • At this time crop surveys are showing the crop left is going to be light and could finish early. 
        • Market is expecting to increase as we get closer to Easter.
        • Cara Cara (the Pink Orange) sizing is similar to navels peaking 88/113/138.  Sizing has improved. Packing in full & half cartons. 
        • Market is strong.

    • W Murcott/Gold Nugget/Pixies and Mandarins are all packing now... showing good color & sugar (eat great).

    • Ruby Grapefruit are available out of California with fair supplies of 36 & larger. Color is good and eating well.
    • Minneolas color is a nice deep orange with sizes peaking 100/80/125's. Flavor is great. Supplies are improving and demand is good.

    • California season is going. The market is strong and growers are harvesting heavy; with good weather in the forecast.
    • This crop is still looking off at least 35% from last year. 
    • Look for this market to continue to be strong through Mid-August. Sizes are peaking good on 48's and 60's. 
    • Flavor is good with fruit ripening nicely. Market for Domestic and Mexico are expected to be similar.
    • Mexico supplies are slowing. There is three and a half months of harvest left.
    • The market will stay up with the intention to slow demand and stretch supplies. 
    • This should help lessen supply gaps between crops.
