Subject    9/25/2018 - - Potatoes
Body
  • Market is somewhat steady.  Idaho is pushing prices down again this week.
  • Many WA growers are pushing for storage and slowing production to cover only what they need to get by.
  • The low pricing is surprising especially with many growers thinking there may be lighter yields and ultimately shorter supplies than last several years.
  • The final USDA storage reports in November will tell the tale.
  • One bright side is that off shore sales from WA are bringing two to three dollars higher than the domestic market will pay.
  • Idaho has a good supply of New Crop Norkotahs as well.  They continue to peak on Larger sizes and prices show it.
  • Prices are weak on cartons, consumer pack pricing is firm on tighter supplies. Organics are available.

Body
  • Avocado supplies are increasing out of Mexico.   This has helped to bring market prices down on all but large fruit.

  • Crossing green and hard fruit so be prepared for a little more ripening time.  Oil content is improving weekly and flavor is light.

  • Peaking 48/70/60's.  Mexico is currently projecting a good size crop so start thinking holiday ads.

  • Fruit is mature and ripening fast; with nice oil content to offer up great eating flavor.
